Ingredients
5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) from Griffonia simplicifolia seeds 50mg, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) - 60mg, Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCL) - 20mg
Purpose/Usage
5 hydroxy tryptophan ( 5-htp) is one of the transitional chemicals formed when tryptophan is converted to serotonin. Serotonin has a variety of physiological actions, but primarily affects the brain.
5-htp and sleep: 5-htp can induce sleep when taken on an empty stomach about 1 hour prior to bedtime. Both 5-htp and serotonin are precursors to melatonin.
5-htp and migraines: Migraine headaches are closely associated with serotonergic activity. A number of studies found that 5-htp may be able to prevent migraines and tension headaches.
5-htp and anxiety: 5-htp may help reduce anxiety as it increases serotonins availability. Some research has indicated that stress results in an increased level of the hormone cortisol, which in turn reduces the levels of serotonin.
5-htp and weight control: A deficiency of serotonin may also be associated with the brains perception of starvation and hunger. If taken half an hour before meals it may suppress appetite.
