WHAT IS UMF ( Unique Manuka Factor)?

Research has shown that Active Manuka Honey contains a special antibacterial property known as UMF (Unique Manuka Factor). This naturally occurring antibacterial & antioxidant property, not found in regular honey products, is said to be effective in treating various types of infections, including stomach ulcers; especially those caused by the H Pylori bacteria.

The NZ honey industry has registered UMF as a trademark so that the antibacterial activity of Manuka honey cannot be misrepresented.

The UMF number comes from a laboratory test for antibacterial activity, with the honey being compared with a standard reference antiseptic (phenol) for potency.

UMF 15+ would be equivalent in antiseptic potency to a 15% solution of phenol.

Manuka honey & Wound Care

Laboratory research has shown that the antiseptic properties and hydrogen peroxide found in Active Manuka honey are capable of killing the harmful bacteria and fungi found in wounds. Therefore, this honey is also an ideal wound-dressing agent. It’s antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are said to quicken the healing process.

Directions:

Oral intake: For severe ulcers, take 1-2 teaspoons of Active UMF25+ Manuka Honey, 30 minutes before your main meals

External application: First, clean the infected area, then depending upon how severe your leg ulcer is, apply a thin layer of any Active Manuka honey product with a rating of UMF 10 or higher and cover the wound with a gauze. For best results, repeat this procedure 2-3 times a day.
